Here is a list of tips and ideas for your NYC getaway!
TIPS

1. Don’t underestimate New York City blocks.
NYC blocks are long and you will be walking a ton so pack your comfiest shoes! Trust me, I am the gal who loves my fashionista wedges but I realized I need to pack comfy. My big bro, who lives in Brooklyn, introduced me to the coolest shoes. The next thing you know we’re in SoHo at Allbirds!!! They are so comfortable I feel like I am walking on clouds. PLUS they are washable – which is helpful if you get caught in the rain. Go get yourself a pair online and Nordstrom has a pop-in too! When your shoes aren’t so comfy I recommend Blister Gel Guard band-aids. They work wonders!
2. A New York 70° is not a Texas 70° !
I’ve learned that even though the Manhattan forecast may show a high of 76°, that it’s not the time to go without a jacket! Manhattan streets are lined with tall buildings…where did the sun go?! Be ready for a chilly breeze and always pack a jacket!
3. Above ground too crowded? Time to go underground!
No Uber? Can’t catch a taxi? My fam loves the subway! Riding the subway gives you a chance to sit and relax in the AC, listen to your tunes and it’s the best place to people watch. I HIGHLY recommend buying the 7-day unlimited metro pass for $32. We got our money’s worth in the first two days! Download NYC Subway App!

IDEAS
1. Aerial Tram to Roosevelt Island.
This trip was the first time we did this and WOW what a little piece of heaven! We hopped on the Aerial Tram at E 59th St & 2nd Avenue and enjoyed amazing views of the Manhattan skyline and East River. All you need is a subway pass to ride! Roosevelt Island is full of lush greenery, fascinating history and my personal favorite… springtime cherry blossom trees! We sure got our steps in walking along the river let me tell ya. Did I mention the photo-ops?!

Also, Check out the ruins of the very first Smallpox Hospital built in 1856. Patients, such as Typhoid Mary were treated there… pretty eerie! On another note, the location was used in the film Spiderman.

2. You like brunch? Head to The Smith!
Alright, I really love brunch!
The Smith in East Village has the yummiest brunch in the city. This restaurant has become a tradition for us and I always leave very happy and veryyy full! My favorite dish by far is the vanilla bean french toast with maple butter and caramelized bananas. It should be featured on the Food Network everyday. Also, their hot cocoa is delish with super yummy homemade whip cream! Y’all trust me… treat yo self to this!
3. Take a break from the concrete.
Central Park, of course, is a crowd favorite. Such a beautiful place to relax, read a book, eat a cupcake, you name it. It’s really cool to go out and explore all the different locations where movies were filmed.

4. Took a little trip to Italy!
No, not legit Italy but it felt like it! Eataly is an amazing market and restaurant for all of us Italian food lovers! Fresh groceries, cute kitchen decor, a plethora of restaurants serving up homemade pastas to last you a lifetime. Plus, they have authentic Italian desserts- helloooo gelato!!! Definitely put Eataly on your list for the Italian full course meal of your dreams. Bellissimo!
“Penne” for your thoughts? 😉 Did I mention that I’m half Italian?!

5. That’s showbiz!
You can’t go to NYC without seeing a Broadway show! The theatre is my happy place. I’m thankful that I have been able to experience over 20 shows from Grease to Cinderella, Phantom and Les Mis, Wicked, Pippin and my fave Billy Elliot (had to see it twice). When buying tickets, don’t underestimate the power of checking the box office the day before or even the day of for some super affordable tickets! We got FRONT ROW seats to Jersey Boys the day of the show for $70! Such a deal! If no luck at the box office, try StubHub – momma and I got great seats for Mean Girls at half the price the night of the show.
Hamilton wasn’t in the budget for us this time but it doesn’t hurt to try the Hamilton Lottery… good luck!
